antrectomy

antrectomy
n.
1) surgical removal of the bony walls of an antrum.
2) a surgical operation in which a part of the stomach (the antrum) is removed. Most secretions of acid, pepsin, and the hormone gastrin occur in the antrum and the operation may be required (usually combined with vagotomy) in the treatment of peptic ulcers that have recurred after vagotomy and are resistant to such drugs as proton-pump inhibitors and H2-blocking drugs (see antihistamine).
